Newari Thangka paintings, also called Paubha, come from the Newar artists of the Kathmandu Valley. This style favors deep indigo backgrounds and rich maroon tones, distinct from the lighter palettes common in Tibetan thangka. Newari craftsmanship shaped Tibetan painting itself for a period, making it one of the most historically significant styles in the region.
